Is the ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura MB good with an AMD-FX 8350?

So currently I have shipping over an AMD-FX 8350 and need to figure out the best board for the budget. I'd like to get a GB 990fx MB or an ASUS m5a99fx but as of now I'm in urgent need of a new MB and I only have enough for $112 and lower. Also, if this board is good enough at stock clocks, will it also be good enough to OC to 4.5GHz w/ a CM Hyper 212 Evo? Also if anyone can tell me the power phase of this board that would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance to those who answer!

Current Build:
CPU: AMD-FX 4350 @4.2GHz w/ stock cooler (CM Hyper 212 Evo just came in)
MB: MSI 760gma-p34(fx)
GPU: Nvidia GTX EVGA 960 SuperSC 2gb
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X Series DDR3-1600MHz
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 750W 80+ Gold
HDD: WD Green 1TB
Case: CM HAF 932 Advanced (w/ stock fans it comes with including a 120mm fan at the bottom)

I'm doing an FX build b/c I don't have the money for a new build like Ryzen and b/c I'm into video editing and photoshopping. Plus I originally bought it to end the bottleneck between my current CPU and GPU but didn't know my current MB lacks support for an 8350.

I hope you're not using Adobe software to edit your pictures and videos. There is literally no AMD optimization there, Adobe is completely Intel focused.

CPU: AMD FX-8350 @4.8ghz w/ Corsair h100i v2
MB: Asus 970 Pro Gaming Aura
GPU: Asus Nvidia GTX 1060 Strix OC
RAM: 16gb G.Skill Ares DDR3- 1600
PSU: Corsair CX 750m
HDD: 4 tb WD HDD
Case: Cooler Master Mastercase Maker 5

I had the hyper 212 evo and could only get to 4.5ghz

That sounds amazing. I wish I had the budget to go water cooling but sadly I can't. But 4.5GHz max with a 212 Evo is perfect cause that's what I'm aiming for. Though, when you got it to 4.5GHz, do you remember your temps on idle and max load? That would help for reference when I OC my 8350.

I actually don't recommend AiO water coolers. Because the fan is on the radiator and not on the socket, the socket area is starved for airflow. This leads to much higher VRM temperatures than with an air cooler. The Cryorig A40 series strives to solve this issue by placing a fan on the waterblock that mounts to the socket, but this comes at a hefty price of $105 USD.

I have a very similar setup that yours chris
Can you take pictures of your bios setting and put on here. Me and a friend have been trying to OC mine and I am stuck at 4.5 on water. There is something in the bios I do not understand. No matter who I change the voltage I get nothing different.

He may have received as stellar chip , not all CPU's OC the same , there are no certain BIOS settings that will work.

If you're buying cheap on the motherboard front I would still honestly stick with a gigabyte 970a-ud3p.
Yes its a little bare bol compared to the aura on specs but its a far far better board for overclocking with its digital 8+2 vrm setup.

Spend the saving on a better cooler because the evo 212 will absolutely not do 4.5ghz with decent temps unless you have an amazing quality chip.

Considering that the PC specs for Mass Effect Andromeda says that the FX8350 is the recommended CPU for AMD and the Intel one is an i7-4790, I would say that people saying an i3 will run circles around it are full of crap. Yes, the FX-8350 is a pretty decent CPU for gaming and will run anything out there at recommended settings today. Not minimum requirements, but recommended. That is pretty good and a lot less expensive. You will have a good gaming experience.

I feel terrible that I have not seen this until today I am still trying to get to that 5 gigahertz I just don't really know where to begin when it becomes on the boot up part. It seems like it's working cuz it actually loads windows and then after about 30 seconds it will just freeze

Replying to this thread I was still working on finding how to keep it booted and ironically my temps are getting kind of high going between 50 and 61 just when loading programs but big thing that I did is I left through and quiet enable and ironically it still on. Meaning normally when I threw up a 5 gigahertz clock it would stay on for about a minute and then freeze it's been on for about 10 minutes even though I haven't done anything except for a load up hwmonitor I think I might have figured out the clock the test now and will report back

Those FX chips cannot handle the higher temperatures like Intel chips can. Throttling happens around 61C on the hottest core and around 55C on the CPU according to my testing in AIDA64 Extreme.

If any part of the CPU goes above 50C, your OC settings are too aggressive and/or your cooler is insufficient for that chip.

Well I think I also forgot to mention I have aftermarket fans on the cooler not the stock ones because the stock ones we're only single ball bearing and they were Extremely Loud all the time..

But I was able to run prime95 for 6 hours no problems maybe I just got lucky

You know, somethings you really just can't improve on very much. I think coolers is one of those things. In the end, just blowing air down on it seems to be the most effect way of doing it. I learned recently that come boards and processors tell you to specifially use a blow down fan and not a tower fan just for the reasons you mentioned.

It is kind of like mops and brooms. They keep trying to come up with new mops and brooms, but in the end, a straw broom and a regular old mop head still gets the job done best!!!!
