The earlier ryzen, not optimized results are out currently the 7700 is better but personally if i were you id wait afew at least afew more months maybe even 6 months or so. The prices on both cpu might come down and also youll get a better idea how much ryzen will improve.

Tho also keep in mind apparently ryzen gives intel its run for its money when it comes to actual work. If you ever intend or end up needing that computer for multi threaded work ryzen will come out being a better value for you considering the game preformance difference is not much and you wouldnt actually notice a difference visually.

Keep in mind optimzation is still something still underway with ryzen in afew months its highly likely that cpu will preform just as good if not better then the 7700k so id say wait and see. In fact i highly recommend waiting 3-6 months and ask yourself if you see yourself using that computer for more then just gaming in the 6 years you dont want to upgrade.

But im somewhat cheap too. If you wait and see approach chances are you can get some free games with your upgrade. Personally my last upgrade i got about 200 bucks in free games. If you are able to get some free stuff and really dont see an advantage of having one cpu or the other. TAKE THE FREE STUFF!

Personally I would go for the 7700k for now, or at least until we know more about the overall performance of the Ryzen CPUs.

Ryzen in its current state hasn't been tested as thoroughly as the skylake CPUs and therefore we have a lot less information about their performance in games and other CPU intensive applications.

If you're willing to wait I would do so, however, you can't really go wrong with a 7700k

You are aware that the 4790k is intel? And is also a 2 year old processor. I hardly think that this is a viable option for the OP.
