SSD given up? Potentially motherboard related?

Ok, hey guys hopefully someone can help me out.

Loaded up my desktop and it wouldn't boot from the SSD, though it did show the device as found in the post-bios check. Said Devices - 1. When I reload without the SSD connected it shows no devices.

Whichever SATA port i have the ssd plugged into it stops the check there, so if i plug it into port 6 it checks 1-5 and shows no device then just hangs on 6 for ages before reporting nothing and saying insert operating system disk.
If i plug it into port 1 it loads port 0 and then hangs for ages etc.

This made me think the SSD was busted or something so I tried to boot up a w10 USB and it got stuck on 'Loading Operating System...' and didn't get past that.

The connections were always a bit hit and miss but it has worked fine for the last 6-8 months so this is rather unexpected.

I don't know if this is
1) the SSD is done. It was one of the original corsair force ones.
2) the motherboards SATA connections are done. They were never great and it was a cheap motherboard.
3) the motherboard itself is just on the fritz.

Like I said i've occasionally had problems with it before and a restart usually 'fixes' it - aka it'll find the device - so i thought nothing of it but it really isn't doing anything now.

Any suggestions?

It's proper etiquette to pass on your full system's specs inclusive of your OS when posting a thread of troubleshooting nature. Please pass them on as:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

1| Are you sure it's done for, might want to try out the SSD on another system and see if it boots or at least is reported in BIOS every single time.
2| Well, if we knew of your boards make and model perhaps we can also agree but unless you've manhandled the SATA data ports they shouldn't be weak connectors. On that note, you sure it's not a lack of power to your components?
3| Also can be judged from the make and model of your motherboard.

How often was occasional? If the issue is only happening with your SSD then it's possible...

CPU: i5 2500k
Motherboard: Pretty sure it's a
GA-Z68XP-UD3
It's a z68 1155 socket for sure.
Ram: 2x4GB (8GB) Corsair blu.
SSD/HDD: 120Gb Corsair force.
GPU: 6850
PSU: 500w Corsair
Chassis: Some cheap box
OS: W10

I'm looking at testing an old HDD on the motherboard to see if it's the SSD, and unfortunately i don't have a build i can test the ssd on available to me.

Will try tomorrow and update.
