Does increasing Graphic Details in a game affect CPU(processor) performance?

I've-
Core i3 4150 3.5GHZ and GTX 1050 2GB.
Nvidia has a software called Geforce Experience which optimizes game settings for optimal performance. Most of the time it increases graphic details of games. I think, they only consider the GPU and changes settings according to it. But If I change settings to high/ultra in a game, will it affect CPU performance?? Or they're(CPU and GPU) separate from each other?

Graphic settings do take a toll on CPU usage as well as GPU usage. If you were to use monitoring software such as CAM whilst playing an intensive game, you will see a high percentage figure next to the CPU which indicates how much load the processor is under. The higher the graphics quality, the more it will affect the CPU load however strictly speaking, the GPU is under the most stress.

Disregarding in game features such as motion blur etc - resolution is the ONLY option to not affect CPU usage as heavily as other settings. The options that take the greatest toll on CPU usage is in game physX (if not handled entirely by the graphics card), supersampling, post processing and draw distance.

As for Geforce Experience's optimisation, it takes your entire build into account. The way it works is it gathers the information about your PC and compares it to a similar configuration on their data base - comparing everything from GPU speeds and CPU clocks to provide graphics settings it believes is most substantial for you.
