GTX 1080 SLI or GTX 1080Ti

Hello,
I've bought a new brand new computer about a week ago. with the asus 1080 strix advanced.
And me, being the idiot that I am. Didn't wait for the release of the 1080Ti.
So now, I want to know which thing to do is smarter.
A. Buy another GTX 1080 and put them in SLI.
B. Swap the 1080 I have and get a 1080Ti
Note: I was planning on getting a 1080 config in SLI, so I have the money for that so that's not the problem.
My monitor is Asus pg278qr, which is 2560x1440p OC at 165hz.
Alothugh there are no benchmarks to the 1080TI, we know that it has a 35% increase to the 1080.
So I would like to know what thing is smarter to do.

I also strongly prefer single cards. When SLI works it works great, but when it doesn't it usually works worse than with a single card and most games don't support SLI well on day 1, so you're likely going to be missing out until a good SLI profile comes around (Battlefield 1 for instance just barely got good SLI support and its been out for months). I like to avoid the headache and stick with a single card, since I already have the headache of making all my old games work in 21:9.

But in terms of performance 1080 in SLI does significantly better than a Titan X, but with the price point of the 1080 Ti you might as well get two of those and just blow the doors off any game in existence.

Really no point in buying two 1080's since you...

Really no point in buying two 1080's since you will only be getting slightly higher performance than a single 1080 Ti (and that's assuming the Ti lives up to Nvidia's hype and actually DOES outperform the Titan XP). For almost the same price you can buy two 1080 Ti's and literally blow away any game you come across, probably be able to upgrade to one of those sick 4k HDR panels Nvidia is coming out with.

Thanks for the advice, but I'll probably stay with the monitor I have now.

I didn't say you had to but it would be a fantastic gaming experience xD. But a single 1080 Ti should do you just fine with what you've got.

Alright, thanks for the advice.
But I will wait until April to see what happens with it, (Benchmarks, Price changes, 3rd party Graphic Cards (Asus,MSI,EVGA,etc)
And ,maybe I'll even buy two 1080Ti's if it's really worth it.

I have been running GTX 1080 SLI since the 1080Ti came out.

Working well for me and I am happy I can beat the 1080Ti in the games I play and any others that support SLI.

I game at 1440p and 165Hz so I won't be needing to move up to a 1080Ti SLI setup.

If I do feel I need to move back to a single card set up then I will not have lost much in depreciation as the second card was cheap (because I bought second hand and there was a high supply as people sold theirs to get the 1080Ti)

when I sell on my two 1080s I will reduce my risk of being ripped off because I will sell to two different people and have added flexibility to sell one card and keep the second for a spare PC etc..

If I was gaming at 4k it would be a different story.

The smarter thing to do is wait and see what AMD VEGA will deliver ... it is very near release .. you dont want to make the same mistake again right ?

as for GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 ti ? for 1440p GTX 1080 is more than enough ... before buying another card consider getting the better monitor. like Ultra Wide 3440x1440 , or a 4K TV/Monitor.

After you get that , then think GTX 1080 SLI or GTX 1080 ti

Yeah the only reason I am getting a 1080 Ti even though I have a 1080 is because I have a 3440x1440 100Hz monitor. A 2560x1440 up to 100Hz a single 1080 will do Ultra on pretty much anything. Even at 60Hz on 3440x1440 a 1080 will do the same. Only reason to get a Ti is if you have more than that and can use the extra power. (Even with my monitor there are few games I can't hit 100fps on Ultra at.)
