I was thinking about buying an rx460 gddr5 2 gig graphics card for my pc. It says it recommends a 400 watt power supply but I only have a 250 watt. Would I be able to get away with running this card using the stock 250 watt power supply? I have a 2010 model p6710f HP tower and was told this card would work with it. Was told the system bios wouldn't work with anything over a 600 series card so since this is a 460 series I'm hoping it will work but was just wondering about the power supply.

Solution
The Athlon II X4 640 is a 95W CPU, so you'd be drawing 170W from the 12V output. If that 250W power supply is rated for less than 18A on the 12V output I wouldn't go for it. If it's higher than that you'd probably be okay, at least for a while. That's an old computer which means it's an old power supply. It could fail on you at any time, more likely if it's under a heavier load than usual.
