So I just upgraded and am paying for 200 mbps and only receiving 25 or 90. My router is a 450Mbps Wireless N Router TL-WR940N. My modem is a ARRIS SURFboard SB6121. I have reset both multiple times and still no use. I'm using a ethernet cable and think it is a cat 5. I do a speed test with the ethernet cable and get 90 download and about 10 upload. When I switch to wireless I get 25 download and 10 upload. This is insane! I was previously paying for 30 mbps and had the same download for wireless. I have no idea what is wrong as my router and modem are capable of 200 mbps. Hopefully one of you can help me.

Solution
Your router specs

4 10/100Mbps LAN PORTS
1 10/100Mbps WAN PORT

It cannot receive more than 100mpbs for one, nor can it output more than 100mbs, so 90 is about perfect with network overhead.

Probl;em solved, your router can't handle it, in or out.

Thank you so much. I was wondering if it was my router. I'm planning to upgrade to gigabit by the end of the spring. I just want to ask you; what do you think is a good router to purchase for gigabit internet. Also should I upgrade the modem as well? I'm assuming so. If you could help me with this that would be amazing!

3 Family members, my computer, a television and three phones usually. Not all used at the same time however.

Going from 200 to 1,000 probably will not see any real benefit.

I mean it's only 10$ more than now, however is only available late spring. People come over, should I not upgrade? It's only 10$ more a month

$10 more...for how long? Is that an introductory price?

I'm just saying...with that level of use, I'd have a hard time imagining you maxing out a 200 megabit pipe, much less a gigabit pipe.
Even after you get the new router.

But if you want to go for it...go for it.
