So, guys I have the following pc build I’m using for computer and multimedia design that I want to upgrade. I’m in the process of either buying one of the following parts build with a $550 budget. (Trying to use this from android, windows 10 application and video game development, photoshop and animation design)

My current pc build now is the following
Intel Core i7 – 4960X
Asus X79 Sabertooth motherboard (Onboard sound is dead and have a sound card to use)
64GB DDR3 ram
Corsair 750 Watt Power Supply
XFX AMD Radeon Rx 480 4GB
Creative Sound Blaster Card

Which processor, motherboard and ram is the best for workstation purposes… (I don't game, I have a PS4 for use)

AMD Ryzen 1800X or 1700X
16GB DDR4 ram
ASUS PRIME X370-PRO AM4 ATX AMD Motherboard

Or

Intel Core i7 -5820K or 6800K
Asus X99-A motherboard (I already own it)
16GB DDR4 ram

Solution
Unless you want to change just for the sake of changing, I'd use the current system as is.
Unlikely you'd see a huge performance increase.

But if you must change:
1. Go to the Ryzen setup.
2. Wait a few months to do that.

Ryzen is much faster at compiling (compared to a 6900K), however you already own an X99 board which will save a couple hundred. It should be better for everything but Photoshop, which is Single Threaded.

If it were me, I would still opt for Ryzen. Going from a 6 core to a 6 core isn't going to give you any tangible benefit.

Ryzen is great for us pc nerds but the X99 chip is the better choice if you already have the motherboard and I would go for a i7 6800k hands down the quality of the bins going out now is abit higher aswell and it should be possible for a good overclock 4.4 4.5 ghz just wait few more days before buying im guessing a large pricecut from intel the are shaking at the Ryzen Rampage this is awesome for us endusers finally the CPU race is on .
