Hello,

Much appreciated if yall can shed some light on questions about gaming and streaming on same PC:
(1) What's the average fps drop for streaming vs non-streaming gaming performance at 1440p with 8 core CPU (6900k or 1800x). Assuming there's no GPU & network bottleneck.
(2) Which CPU would be better to stream and gaming on same machine.

My goal: I want to stream overwatch while gaming at 1440p ultra 120-140hz fps while streaming either 720p or 1080p to twitch.

Thank you in advance!

I recommend the i7 6900K.

Why?
Since you mentioned no GPU and Network bottleneck, both the i7 6900K and Ryzen 7 1800X will have no frame drops recording 1080p/1440p/4K HEVC due to the sheer number of cores and threads.

The i7 6900K at stock 3.20 GHz is 5% faster than the Ryzen 7 1800X at 3.60 GHz. Definitely the 6900K is better, but only slightly if you dont overclock but costing a lot more (6900K: US$1050, 1800X: US$500).

If you want to stream and game 1440p at the same time at 120+FPS, you need to overclock and you want the best performance you can get. GPU must be at least a GTX 1080 Ti/Titan Xp (or the most powerful single GPU), as well as a water cooler for CPU and GPU.

Since 1800X has slightly less IPC and overclocks to at most ~4.2 GHz compared to i7 6900K ~4.8 GHz, and Ryzen has issues with RAM>3400MHz, for best performance, get i7 6900K with two sticks of DDR4 4000. (Real-world tests in sig)

Note: If you dont mind 100-120 FPS, get Ryzen 1800X which is much cheaper and very capable still. But if you absolute must get 120+FPS, you have to go Intel regardless.

Expect to pay a lot for top end performance.
Have a good day :)

for overwatch, a gtx1060 can get u above 100 fps in 1080p and the 1070 can get u @ 1440p. the max u need is a 1080. as for cpu, a 7700k is more than enough. only gta v and other cpu intensive games will demand more to maintain 120fps.
regarding the 2 cpu above, 1800X is the one to get. but a 1700X can also get the job done.
