my 1 tb seagate external hard disk is not working

when i plugged to usb port of my laptop my hard disk light should be on and it run the drive.. but when i plugged to usb por it is not working.. a sound is coming(i think it is motor) for less than 2 seconds and stopped.. and light is not switched on.. please help me

Test in another system, if it does the same thing, try a different cable, if you can find one with a dual USB connection for extra power use that.

If that also does not work, open the case and connect the drive directly to a desktop system with a SATA cable. That sometimes won't work if the connection is custom or if it's encrypted.
