So I'm spec'ing together a new system
Ryzen 1700X
MSI X370 Carbon Pro mobo
GTX 1080

I'm planning to use 2 m.2 for my storage.
I've been looking at
Plextor M8Pe M.2 2280 512GB NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PX-512M8PeGN
and of course
SAMSUNG 960 PRO M.2 512GB NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V6P512BW

So the Plextor are about $100 lower each than the Samsung
But the comparison is;
Plextor Samsung
Max Sequential Read Up to 2300 MBps Up to 3500 MBps
Max Sequential Write Up to 1300 MBps Up to 2100 MBps

Does the second m.2 also run a pcie gen 3 x 4?

Or do I go with 1 of each and use the faster Samsung as the primary, and the Plextor as the secondary?

Solution
Use one the the pcie x84 or 8x slots and use intel 750 fulton 1.2 tb or 800 gb which is around same pricess as those m.2 comes with a 5 year guarantee, and if u got the dosh use the ugrsde x8 intel AIO card which is prob the fastest thing on . unless u plan to sli or crossfired at x8.......its an option. for example the 800gb versions is : 800GB Intel 750 Series AIC SSD, HHHL PCIe 3.0 (x4), NVMe, 20nm MLC NAND, 2100MB/s Read, 800MB/s Write, 420k/210k IOPS the website fior this one is ; https://www.scan.co.uk/products/800gb-intel-750-series-aic-ssd-hhhl-pcie-30-(x4)-nvme-20nm-mlc-nand-2100mb-s-read-800mb-s-write-420k which is solid mate, your choiceif u go for the x8 versions u can go up to 4tb in one card but ill show u he card...

I hope it gives u at least an alternative. Plus you don't get no themal throttling with standing cards, you will get the claimed speeds 100% of the time.
