So i switched my netgear r6300 to an Asus RT-AC68U.

I was getting about 400-500 Mbps with the netgear (wired through an AP).

Same setup with the new router (which is suppose to be better).. now i am getting 80 mbps.....

any ideas?

Solution
In AC68P firmware under LAN should be a tab for IPTV.

If there is not then you should upgrade from stock asus firmware to asus merlin (it adds many more features)

Go to IPTV and then set it to manual, and under internet set VLAN id to 35

thanks ; >

my setup is pretty basic.. i have everything turned off at the moment (i.e. adaptive QoS etc.).
My WAN is Auto IP

I Am getting an alert at the top saying my WAN iP is not External..

My PC is actually hardwired to the AP.. which is setup with DHCP off and 192.168.1.220 ip address.

the AP is wired to the RT-AC68, which is connected to the ISP Cable Modem.

i used Speedtest.net for both tests.. i wish i knew where the screenshot was of the 500mpbs

So just to make sure you have ISP MODEM ---> AC68U ---->AP
Is the Asus saying WAN IP not external or the AP is? If AP then is the cable from 68U plugged into WAN or LAN port?

Is the test from a device on AC68U or from AP, and what device is the AP and does it have gigabit or 10/100 port?

Also is your cable modem a modem only, or modem/rotuer combo (modem/router combo will almost always have wifi and 4 OUTPUT ethernet ports on it).

yes to the ISP MODEM ---> AC68U ---->AP setup
The Asus setup (192.168.1.1) is say the error not the AP.

The test is from my PC which is hard wired to the AP
My smartphone is connected directly to the Asus and show only 50mbps download on 5G

the AP was a TP link $50 router... i switch it to the netgear one i replaced the Asus with thinking it might help the speed but no go. and No it does not have a gigbit port i believe.. it's the R6300 Netgear router..

the ISP modem is a combo ... modem and router (with wifi)

The R6300 says it has gigabit on it. Setup correctly with static address, dhcp off and connection from primary router plugged into LAN port?

Go into ISP modem's settings, dissable wifi (if you have not already), and then look for a setting that says "bridge mode" or "modem only mode" if you cant find those then tell me if there is any settings that has the work NAT associated with it.

Once we have modem/router not acting as a router anymore then lets do a speed test from the AC68U from a wired device.

The ISP modem/router is gigabit right?

yes to initial questions ; >

wifi is disabled on ISP model, there is no bridge mode, but there is DMZ (which i read is a hybrid).. the modem/router is the Home Hub 2000.. no NAT settings either...

Are you using fiber?
What is the input connection to the home hub?

The modem has ethernet coming in as an input correct?

If so:
If you are not using the box for TV then you can bypass the modem all together, you will just need the PPPOE login credentials for your account.
If you are using the box for TV or any other Bell services then the DMZ is your only option from the research I did.

Now why do you have 3 devices in the DMZ? The Asus should be the only device if you dont have TV devices.

I was wondering the same thing. wheni had my netgear installed as my main router it would show R6300 as the only device... trying to figure out what those are... as i have no other Ethernet cables plugged in and wifi is disabled.

we don't have TV... and never knew i could by pass the mode.. do you mean just the router as my main and not use the home hub at all?

the Home Hub 2000 has a cable line(is that for tv?)

PPPOE login would be the one they provided us?

will this method work with the RT-AC68? and this is what i am assuming u meant by bypassing the home hub? just trying to line up the option in the Asus config screens... can't find VLAN

1. Directly from bell ONT (optical network terminal), connect LAN 1 directly to the WRT1900AC internet/wan port.

2. Login to your router, go to "connectivity". Under the "internet settings" tab

Connection Type: PPOE
Username: "enter your bell user ID"
Password: "enter your bell user password"

3. Under the "VLAN" tab enter the following

VLAN: switch to on
Select Profile: "manual"
ID: 35
Tag: Tagged

Make sure you save all your settings. After doing this, the bell sagecom is completed out of your setup and your WRT1900AC is your modem/router.

AMAZING!!!!! worked like a charm..... THANK YOU SOO MUCH! I wish i did this sooner and i wonder why the netgear router had those speeds even setup with a double NAT...

VPN still doesn't work ..... so gotta figure out what's blocking it... but i'm pretty stoked ; >

I will look into asus merlin ... this will work even with my work's vpn settings?

just in the middle of studying for a certification .. once that's done i will look into merlin

thanks again for your help!!!

Yes it will work.

If this is a VPN so that 1 computer client can access the work vpn occasionally then I would just configure it in windows and connect when you need it. Better then using constant resources to have the router connected to the VPN, and that way you will not be using work resoruces just to browse the internet (and limited to their upload speed if it is not that fast.

If you are your work's offsite backup then there is also better options.
