PC Freezes With Loud Buzzing Sounds While Playing Games

Hey !

I'll try to make it short ..
So as stated, my PC freezes completely (have to force-reset) and loud buzzing sound comes out of my speakers/headphones. I've been testing stuff for a couple of months now, and I am at my lowest and I really have no idea what to do anymore.. so hopefully posting here, someone can help me. Now I've done the following:

- Swapped out MOBO + GPU (so first setup of mobo + gpu crashed, now second setup of mobo + gpu crashed as well (purchased new ones))
- Reinstalled windows twice
- memtested ram (but I cannot remember if I only did them two at a time, or did I take one out and tested them both seperately) !!!
- Played without GPU (MOBO only)
- Played without HDD
- Reinstalled drivers (mostly by reinstalling windows)
- Kept an eye on Temps (nothing unusual, but I might be wrong) !!!

Notes:
- I don't do anything crazy with the PC. Simply Install the few games I play and that's it.
- I used to own Nvidia, disabled it under sound devices and didn't crash for a solid few days
- When I removed HDD, I haven't crashed for a solid few days
- .. weird stuff basically
- also on an off-note, ever since I bought new GPU, I get this squeaky sound ( something like a rat ) out of the back of my PC (PSU??), after a while of playing, and it's quite annoying (YAY more problems !! ), but that has nothing to do with my crashing I believe, as I only recently bought the new GPU, and I've been crashing ever since I built my PC. Note that I have the monitor I have the games on plugged through a DisplayPort adapter via HDMI. I haven't properly tested by taking it off, and just running the lone HDMI single monitor yet, but I still had squeaking coming out of the back every so little for a little while after I took it off ( I turned the 2nd screen back on shortly afterwards though )

- I've now taken out speakers and disabled all possible Monitor tabs in the sound device options. Will see if that will do anything ...

Specs:
- 2x ASUS VS247HR, 59,9 cm Monitors
- Intel Core i5-6600 3,3 GHz CPU
- Corsair DDR4-240 16GB RAM
- Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB SSD
- EVGA SuperNOVA G2 80 Plus Gold 550 Watt PSU
- Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H90
- ASUS Z170-P, Intel Z170 Mainboard MOBO
- XFX Radeon RX 480 OC Edition, 8192 MB GDDR5 GPU

So again, I really hope that there's a way to fix this, as I have 0 idea of what else to do.. and testing this is really exhausting. Thanks in advance !

UPDATE: 05/03/2017
- Increased voltages in BIOS/Intel burned my CPU for a solid few hours on maximum, NO crash.. then proceeded to play Overwatch all night, NO crash.. wake up in the morning, do an hour of training grounds in Overwatch (so no other players, pure bots and barely any effects, and I crashed

UPDATE: 06/ AND 07/03/2017
- Tested non-stop 4 hours of gaming with 1 RAM STICK only 1x 8GB+Prime95 running
- RAM 1 results = 4 hours gaming NO CRASH
- RAM 2 results = 4 hours gaming NO CRASH

- Tested non-stop 4 hours of gaming with DUAL RAM 2x 8GB+Prime95 running
- RAM 1+2 simultaniously CRASHED AFTER 2 HOURS

^ All in all, 16 hours of gaming + Prime95 at the same time ^

- I am going to go and apply new PSU soon. Until that arrives I am going to play with single RAM and see what happens. I will also do another memtest overnight with both RAM sticks inside (cca. 12 hours testing).

UPDATE 08/03/2017
- 12hs of memtesting, no errors. Will proceed with single RAM testing, and see if I don't crash at all. PSU is on its way.

Solution

Hi - I was having the same problems as you - PC freezing / loud buzzing through speakers and had to do a power reboot to get it back ... it only happened to me during gaming.

This solution might sound crazy to some, but all I can do is relay to you what worked for me with a similar specced system to yourself.

I ran memtest86 latest version v7.3 until test completed (took around 4 1/2 hours), RAM was all good & no errors on test, then rebooted PC.
Whereas before I was freezing up/loud buzzing noise averaging 4 or 5 times per 3 hour session (yes, it was driving me crazy!)...

Wow, you must be extremely frustrated. I share your pain.
All I can do is list the things you have not checked
The case (PC should run with motherboard just sitting on your desk)
The power supply
The water cooler (stock air cooler should work fine with that CPU)

Hey! Thanks for the fast reply, heh

Alright, so I mostly crash when I am moving around. I never crash when in game and just have it running/stationary. I mostly crash when movement is involved. Be it loading NPC's as I am dashing through/about to attack/attacking (using skill animations) in MMO's or intense Overwatch ( be it fast aiming or a lot of effects? or just simple effects? ). Kind of hard to pinpoint every exact crash. But mostly when a decent amount of stuff is happening, lets say that.

EDIT: The crashes are pretty random. But they are never instant after I start playing.. usually after a couple of minutes AT LEAST. Then again, there could be a crash or two that occur quite fast into the game or something (sorry, just crashed so many times :( ), mostly after a while of playing though

I was having same problem but it was rare and i didnt care much. But last year at bf 1 open beta my pc freezed with a buzzing sound every game. Then i tryed to reduce ram frequency to 800 from 1333. Ever since there is no freezing and buzzing. But after i did this bf 1 was stuttering after an hour of playing. Though it was not that bad and the game was playable.
I encounter this issue mostly with the unoptimised games. For example it was happening wtih witcher 3 before updates. Then they optimised it very well and i didnt have any issue like this.

Whereas before I was freezing up/loud buzzing noise averaging 4 or 5 times per 3 hour session (yes, it was driving me crazy!), now it runs fine - not one freeze since I ran the memtest86 over a week ago.

It might also help if you disable NVidia sound driver in Device Manager under Start>Control Panel>Device Manager>Sound, Video & Game Controllers and run the RealTek High Definition Audio only, or vice versa, if you're not already doing that. Just right click on NVidia options (or whichever one you do not wish to use) and Disable it - a small arrow will appear indicating it is disabled.

Again, all I can do is tell you what worked for me, but I did nothing else other than run the memtest - if you have a spare USB stick etc, you might want to try it yourself to see if it works for you.

Cheers & fingers crossed, myst.
