Hi
i would to create a RAID10 on my new server and i wish to know if i can make the RAID using the integrated sata ports on the card or if it's better to use a dedicated RAID controller.
i use active directory services to share solidworks file among 10 clients

Solution
With current RISC IO processor today, calculate parity for RAID5 or RAID6 is very fast - not like old day IO microprocessor run on 8/16 bit - RAID 5 or 6 even gets over 2000MB/s. Imagine all data center run on RAID10. That wont happen. Of course there are ZFS and resFS also

I would use hardware raid controller, in your case the of sharing through network, there is no need for super fast or expensive RAID controller PCIe

BTW this will give you about 250MB/s read/write on RAID5 - 2.5 times GbE , so there wont be a speed issue, and it's driver less, you can move to any system if you ever want

BTW you should consider RAID5 instead of RAID10
