Hey guys,

I'm planning to get a good laptop, well a decent one to be precise, as good ones are usually pretty costly.
I decided to zero in on GTX 1050 laptops, so chose MSI GL62m 7RD.

But the problem is, there is another laptop from MSI , named MSI GL62 7RD ! The specs are almost the same except the GFX , the latter one has a 4GB DDR5 VRAM compared to the 2GB DDR5 VRAM of the first one.

So I have this question, how will more VRAM benefit me ? When both have the same specs. Lot of ppl in reddit are giving me crap saying the extra VRAM is not gonna help in this "stupid" card anyway.

TL;DR - Difference between GTX 1050 4GB DDR5 and GTX 1050 2GB DDR5 laptop cards.

And also, does this gtx1050 4GB card exist ? No I didn't miss the Ti. It is just GTX1050 4GB DDR5.

And, as a suggestion, check out the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Version. It's $800 (around same price as your MSI) but it has the same GPU, efficient quad kaby lake i5, and the longest battery life I've ever experienced compared to other gaming laptops I've showcased. Don't ask if I'm a payed professional for this type of stuff. I'm just smart.

Yea, but the laptop with Ti isn't available for my budget sadly. I read the differences between the two are marginal at best. Well I could be wrong too.

@bootcher.
Hmmm.. sadly there isn't any benchmarking done with the 2 cards I've mentioned to check that myself. But I'd really like to get some figures here. You know, I have to be 100% sure before buying.

Sure ! It's a local online shop in India, so not sure how helpful it would be to you.
"https://www.theitdepot.com/details-MSI+GL62+7RD+15.6inch+Gaming+Laptop+(Core+i7-7700HQ,+8GB,+1TB,+GTX+1050+4GB,+Windows10)_C9P28054.html"

But I've seen other laptops having GTX 1050 4 GB as well., Not just this. I've already talked to the customer support of that website, they say if it isn't as per the listing, they'd take the laptop back.

Okay. First, I have a desktop version of the GTX 1050 Ti. I know it's a desktop, but it's the same concept on the laptop. The stock version GTX 1050 has 640 CUDA cores. Whereas the GTX 1050 Ti has 768 CUDA cores. Non-Ti with 40 texture units, Ti with 48. Honestly I can go on with more complicated things. But to answer your question, the VRAM is good for you. But it won't change the amount of CUDA cores. So a GTX 1050 will have 4 GB of VRAM, but it is still a 1050. Not a Ti.

Read my previous answers. It explains a lot. I would prefer to have a Ti version.
