That's about the best balanced I can make the system for about the budget given. The CASE is more personal preference and there are several options there.

I thought about only 8GB of system memory but you'd likely need to upgrade that later, and matching memory isn't always easy (especially if they stop making it).

You can even take out the SSD and use just the HDD. Less snappy to boot up but not a huge issue and you can buy one later. If so, partition the HDD so Windows sits on a 200GB partition (so you can CLONE that to an SSD later) and put Steam etc on the 2nd partition.

You can even find an Accessibility version of W10 for free. It's the same version but meant if someone needs one of the...

center the build around an i5-7500 cpu and gtx 1060 6gb gpu, like I did. you have over $100 more budget than I did when I built mine, so that will cover the operating system easily. it's a good enough budget to keep you from having to settle for a super cheap case, motherboard, and power supply.

It's up to you. Honestly it's just like LEGOs if you actually take the time to read your manual step by step, and learn from the youtube tutorial builds. There is a small risk of bending pins on the motherboard if you aren't careful.

Then you still have enough to buy Windows 10, and maybe add an SSD.

I came OVER (closer to $1400USD as the CPU cooler price was not listed) but I wanted to just post this and explain WHY I didn't make a new build.

*The issue I found was I really wanted to put in a good RX-480 8GB (or GTX1060 6GB.. both are fine with pros/cons). I also wanted to put in an i5-7600K and suitable motherboard to support a light overclock.

So I end up a bit over, but trying to decide which parts to drop is simply frustrating. Save $30 for a 1TB HDD? Cheaper motherboard with no OC capability?

Sigh. It's a weird price point frankly and it's not my build so I don't know the preferences.

The i5-7600 is a great CPU, but we're seeing games that benefit from higher clock speeds but if your budget is fixed you can start with my build, or other builds and play around until you get there.

*MOTHERBOARD. I never put a cheap ass motherboard in a build. If saving money make sure it's still half decent and suitable for what you want.

RYZEN is also worth considering if you can wait long enough till the 4-core CPU's come out. You'd want an 4C/8T processors with almost i7-7700K performance but at a cheaper price, or just a 4C/4T (similar to i5-7600) depending on how actual pricing ends up.

No exact suggestion, as some of this is user preference. For example, you can save a small amount with cheaper SSD (even a 120GB should be okay if you don't put games on it), 1TB HDD etc.

I will however rebuild the system so it maxes out at $1300 (before tax/ship, and try to avoid REBATES) so you can compare. I'll also leave off the CPU cooler and you can use the included stock cooler for now (for i5-7600 it's more about noise, not a cooling issue with stock).

As said, RYZEN CPU's are cheaper though it's a few months apparently before the 4-core versions launch. It could save $100 though.

I'll post this and see what I can come up with.
