Hello all, I was toying around with the idea of getting a 1080ti late this year maybe early next year, but I wonder if its worth it. I also wonder if my system is ready to handle it, (I'm pretty sure it is) but that's me being paranoid. Anyway, below is what I am currently running with triple 1080p monitors. (Might be upgrading to 4k early next year) please let me know your opinions whether you think I should skip the 10 series and if its even worth it or if maybe I should bother SLI 2 980ti's.

Gigabyte z170 ATX MOBO
i7-6700k 4.2ghz
GTX 980ti (Not OC)
16gb DDR4 3000mhz
1000w SuperNova PSU

I rarely do surround display gaming. I'm normally just multitasking. I just notice some newer games cranked all the way up are averaging around 70-80fps but then other new games are fine. Wasn't sure how much longer it would be til that FPS avg. starts dropping even lower and was time to save up for an upgrade.

Multitasking while gaming on a single primary monitor is easy.
the side monitors have negligible impact on gaming.

Graphics card price/performance is constantly getting better.
My best advice is to wait until you need a boost, then get a big jump in capability.
Buy your 4k monitor first and see how you do,

I was using a GTX780 when I bought my 4k monitor. It worked well enough, but I wanted more and upgraded to a GTX980ti.
I am happy enough with slower moving games like civ 4/5 and skyrim.
I contemplated upgrading to the GTX1080ti, but I think I will pass it by.
If the rumored GTX980ti trade in came about, I might reconsider.

If your time horizon is at the end of the year, you might do well to wait.

There were rumors such as this:
