Should I upgrade my GTX 950 or FX-6300 for 900p gaming?

Although I don't plan on upgrading just yet (I may give it another year before upgrading; I don't see too many performance issues), I want to know how much I should be saving up. Would it be more worthwhile to save up money for a new graphics card or new processor?

If I go for a new processor, I'd likely go to a new platform entirely because there isn't much upgrade space for the FX series. I would need a new CPU, Motherboard, and RAM.

If I were to go for a new GPU, would an RX 480 suffice? There is a Powercolor 480 at Newegg for $165 right now, and I am considering getting one if it would be a good idea.

I have:

FX-6300 (stock)
12 GB DDR3-1333
ASUS Strix DirectCU II GTX 950 (2 GB)
1440x900 75Hz Monitor

Some more intensive games I would consider buying are as follows:

- OSIRIS: New Dawn
- ABZÛ
- NieR: Automata

If it wouldn't be worthwhile upgrading right now or in the next year, please tell me. If I can save a few hundred dollars, then I would be more than happy if I won't get any impactful/needed performance.

I used to run an FX 6300 on a GA78LMT USB3 with 8 GB DDR3-1333. Thing is, I don't frequent demanding games really. My most played was Borderlands 2 / TPS, I often build in Garry's Mod (only sometimes stutters with lots of items (like, hours of building worth), running Minecraft servers, all the source games, Overwatch, and the only recent/popular game in that mix was Fallout 4. Anyways, my opinions on the CPU ; was very capable. I pushed mine to 4.2 GHz. I think your CPU should hold up well in everything but maybe Osiris ; New Dawn (whose specs list an i5 at 3.2... dunno)

In fact, the only real reason I switched was the HTPC motherboard upgrade twitch. I'm in a MATX case so my AM3+ options were limited to the ASRock 970M PRO 3...

Personally, I recommend you go for the CPU upgrade. Maybe save a little money if you can and get an I5 or something. The RX 480 is a good card for the money and it will certainly suffice for the games you want to play.

The CPU seems fine for the most part, but it is just a rough patch. I feel the GPU and CPU go well together, but I don't have the money to upgrade both. I've been thinking about seeing how the cheaper Ryzen CPUs do. but my GPU might bottleneck the CPU if I would consider upgrading it to be worthwhile.

This is how my PC rated on UserBenchmark:

I'd think of upgrading the GPU to an AMD RX 470, unless an RX 480 is close in price. RX 470 generally has the best value.

You know, I am actually using that same motherboard right now. I have 12 GB of DDR3-1333 though. I'm only considering the RX 480 because the cheapest RX 470 I've come across excluding rebates is $150 I think, while there is the $165 RX 480 as I mentioned. I think I'm gonna hold off and upgrade once the computer really starts to show its age. Additional question: did you ever try any overclocking on the 78LMT? Did it work and was it stable/were there any issues? I have a 212 EVO and would like to get 4.2 or 4.3 GHz if possible and see about the performance difference.
