Well I know this has been asked before, but I have heard that some desktop motherboards may support server memory. This is all pretty new to me so I wanted to find out for sure from those who would know. Specifically wondering about my dinosaur Asus M2N-e. Got some plans for it, and no it's not dropping it off a cliff, etc. :)
Thanks

Good luck finding inexpensive DDR2 ECC (unbuffered) memory.

Here's a 2x2GB kit (you support 4x2GB max) for about $90: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/H7fp99/mushkin-memory-976539a

NON-ECC will cost about $25 for same capacity: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/KPkD4D/crucial-memory-ct2kit25664aa667

So if you want 8GB total it's $180 vs $50 (plus tax/ship).

There are also other error-correction features in place, AND you can run MEMTEST86 to check for errors. It's really hard to justify ECC for a desktop PC which is why it's not as common thus more expensive.
