Which is faster. A less used hard driver or a newer hard drive.

So i have this old system and I'm looking at the hard drive, which is a Seagate barracuda 160gb, its from 2008 but its been in an office system with very little use.

Now i have a 'newer' one a Seagate barracude 320gb, which was made in 2010 but has been in a home computer with excessive use over the past 4-5 years.

So my question is. Would the older but less used one be any better or should i just keep to the newer (but still old) one with more usage.

Few extra notes they both appear to be the same besides the storage. They both have 7200 rpm and they are both SATA. Also i know i could just buy a SSD and the difference would be much greater but im not intrested in buying a new HD.

Hope you can help.
Thank you

They are both same speed? they 7200rpm, age doesn't make them slow down, just adds to wear & tear.

Easiest way to compare the two would be to run the free version of hdtune on both and see which has a better health score

Newer drives are typically a little bit faster than older ones when it comes to HDD's as long as they are from the same family of drives. Mind you they don't get a lot faster as the speed comes from the increased data density of the drive given the read head can read more during a full rotation of the drive as it passes over more data than it would have before.

I would not only recommend testing the health with HDtune like Colif said but also benchmarking both drives.
