USB 3.0 front panel headers

I've had my motherboard for about a year now (Asus Z170-A) and I also have a define S case.

The front panel header for whatever reason one only works. Now my mobo has 2 different USB 3.0 headers. If I plug in the headers cable to one header, one of the front panel connections work but the other doesn't but if I put the cable in the other header the one that didn't work before now works and the other one that did work before now doesn't.

Could this be a issue with a BIOS setting or something like that? Obviously I would like both connections to work as I use every USB connection I have on the mobo plus the one on the front panel.

Thanks for any help you can give me, I'm currently lost.

The USB3.0 front panel connector off of any case will only latch onto the mobo header in one direction.

So if the front panel ports are operable one at a time in alternate fashion when swapped onto different motherboard headers, then the issue is with your motherboard's header or with the BIOS.

You could try and make sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date. I could ask you to go the long route and see if the board's USB3.0 headers functions as normal when used in another case that has front panel USB3.0 ports.
