My Transcend 1TB has stopped working. Light comes on briefly when plugged in but laptop no longer recognises it. Can hear a faint noise from the drive, but light won't stay on and won't connect - please help.

Reads out like the drive has kicked the bucket.

1| Are you yet under warranty period with the device?
2| If you're not under warranty, you could ask a local shop to take a look at the bare drive within the portable enclosure. The HDD's found within aforementioned enclosure are typically laptop grade HDD's and will connect to an available free SATA DATA and power port on a regular system.

Can you explain how the noise is? Can hear a knock while the drive is spinning up?

Thank you for your response. It should still be under warranty, but I am wary of sharing my information with the shop I bought it from - data protection and all that. There is nothing dodgy on it that I wouldn't share with someone I trust, but don't like the idea of handing over information to complete strangers!
It has only just stopped working, when I plug it in, the blue light comes on briefly and then goes out. The laptop does not recognise that it is connected. The device makes a low 'humming' sound, like it is working, even though the light is not on. I have always ejected it properly, but when I go to eject it now before unplugging, it no longer shows up. Just very frustrated.
