3000Mhz RAM won't go above 2400Mhz.

So about 2 months ago I overhauled my PC. Specs:

MOBO: Asus Z170-P ATX
RAM: 2x8 Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15
CPU: i5 7600k
GPU: Asus Nvidia GTX1060 STRIX 6GB OC

The RAM is advertised to run at 3000Mhz. But after checking cmd with 'wmic memorychip get speed', it says it's only running at a maximum of 2133Mhz. I went into the BIOS to correct this and set it to 'DDR4 3000Mhz', but when I saved changes and rebooted, no post.

I tried upping the voltage a bit to see if that would fix it, but to no avail. The highest I can get my RAM to run at is 2400Mhz. I tried enabling XMP in my BIOS, but it doesn't appear that my MoBo has a setting for that.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Aside from gaming I have a workload that involves a lot of rendering, and so getting my RAM to run at its correct speed would help keep my CPU fed when doing so.

It says the timings are 15, 17, 17, 35. However it is really unclear in the BIOS how I should enter in these timings. I've found the section for changing the DRAM timings, but the format just isn't there. There are 2 boxes with 2 digits numbers in them listed next to certain editable values, stretching down to the bottom of the page. And there are different sections: 1st timings, 2nd timings, and 3rd timings.

It might be the first box as CAS timing, then CAS to RAS and then a third box.

The first box takes the first number, the second box is BOTH the middle numbers (they will match) and the third number is actually the fourth from the timing list.

The fourth box might be a command timing box, which should be set at 2n or 2t whatever it is. 2 something.

Check if the XMP is setting on the right ones.

Maybe you take a picture of the inside XMP Settings so the users can see what is going on

I state in the OP that there is no option to use XMP.

It's not just up to the MB for OC RAM as official Intel support for your CPU is DDR4-2133/2400 at 1.35V.
As they are considered OC RAM and not JDEC standard then it depends on the strength of the IMC if they will play fair and your XMP profile may not be recognized.
It can be a frustrating exercise trying to get them to work even if the MB supports OC RAM.

You can try altering Primary Timings and voltage but no guarantee and if you don't have success then I recommend you either return them for 2400MHz RAM that have been listed on the MB QVL or use them at 2133MHz if that's what they default to.

It says right on the feature page of that mainboard that it supports up to 3466 memory. It also says on the Specifications page that it supports XMP.

What are your options in the AI Overclock Tuner setting in the BIOS? Should be Auto, Manual, XMP. If you look at page 2-19 of the manual, you can see in the picture -- AI Overclock Tuner is highlighted, and the info text at the bottom says [XMP] is a choice.

Yea Intel i5 7600 / 7600K / 7700 / 7700K only supports up to 2400MHZ DDR4 Memory (for 7th Gen)

I believe those higher speed Memory are used for Extreme CPU?
Maybe those memory speed for Skylake-X (Intel i7 7000) and Kaby Lake-X (Intel Core i7-7740K and i5-7640K) which uses LGA 2066.

Ok wait a minute. The spec page states that intel can only support 2400 on the 7700k and I know that's not true.

On your bios screen from the first three boxes put in order of box: 15 17 35

In the fourth box select 2N or 2T whatever one it is.

Set the voltage at 1.353 and the frequency at 3000.

You can also try 3200mhz with 16 18 38

Because he do not have XMP - he probably have manually adjust it to have 3200MHZ .... you have Intel i7 7700K and it goes up to 3200?

Not to hijack, but I have this same issue where my motherboard is only letting me use 2133 for my DDR4 16 GB of ram, its supposed to be 3000, and my cpu supports it. Adjusting voltage did nothing. As it seems to be that the OP cpu doesn't support 3000, mine does and it still doesn't make sense. Why bother making sticks at 3000 if you can't even take adventage of the increase?
