Im building a friend a pc and am wondering if he should have a 4GB GTX 960 and 8GB of ram or
a 2GB GTX 960 and 16GB of ram?
He will mainly be playing ARK Survival Evolved.

Thanks in advance! :)

why get a 960? i'd recommend getting
GTX 1060 3GB or 6GB VRAM
or
RX 480 4GB or 8GB VRAM

modernly, you'll want to avoid any video card that has 2GB of VRAM. you'll want at least 3GB.

for the RAM itself, it doesn't matter much between 8GB or 16GB RAM. if you're talking about current games and ARK Survival Evolved then 8GB will be perfectly fine. if you want to play future games and have a better system for new games then 16GB RAM is good, but you don't have to get that now. you can always add more RAM later on.

Because the GTX 960 is alot cheaper and he is on a tight budget.

is it? hmm, ok.
you can get a 1060 3gb or 480 4gb for ~$180 new.

if you want to go cheaper, you can try eBay for used parts. used video cards and ram are decently priced on eBay.
there's a 960 4gb listed on eBay for ~$120.

Before you pull the trigger check out the 1050ti. Compare them. It's $50 cheaper and rates overall higher and exactly the same on gaming performance.

Just looking out for you.

That difference in cost might leave enough room for you to get both 4gb and 16gb ram. Possibly.
