Hello, I have a new samsung EVO 250GB SSD with windows 10 installed. I also have an HDD drive with windows 7 as an OS (corrupted BMR, will not boot). I want to transfer all of the data from the HDD to the new SSD without the corrupted windows 7. The cloning software that came with the new SSD drive will not work because the HDD is MBR and the SSD is GBT I think. What can I do to get the files to the new SSD without windows 7 coming with it? Thank you all for advice and/or suggestions.

Applications need to be actually reinstalled.

Save files...you need to find where they actually are, in relation to that specific game. They are not all in the same place.

Are you trying to copy over files from a particular drive outside of the Windows 7 install directory or is it located within the Windows 7 installed directory? You could connect the HDD to your system, and with Winrar locate the drive and file you'd like to copy over. The key word here is if the system actually sees the HDD both in the BIOS and within Disk Manager.

Open WinRAR,
Locate the file/folder in your HDD.
Once you've located the file/folder you can simply select the items in the main window and then CNTRL+C.
CTRL+V to your new destination.

You could also try this method or try this method to convert the MBR to GPT.

This depends on what you mean by 'files'.

You've done a new OS install on the SSD?
Then you can only copy over your personal data.
Doc, music, downloads, video...stuff like that.
Programs and applications can't be copied over.

Okay, thanks Lutfij. Yes, all drives are recognized in BIOS and disk manager. Are you saying I can just copy and paste? Will that work with save games files? What about programs like Atronis and rufus? And disk monitoring software programs like CPUID? I have all of those and more on my old HDD. I just don't want anything transfered over from windows 7, just everything else.

I have read elsewhere that if a drive is partitioned it cannot be converted to GPT from MBR.

What I mean by "files" is everything on the HDD besides the OS, in this case, windows 7. Thanks.

No, that will not work.
Assuming by 'everything', you're including the applications.

Can't do that.

Absolutely not.
That would attempt to clone the entirety of the (failing) Win 7 onto the Samsung Evo.

You can't clone 'part of it', or 'everything but the OS'.
