i have a hyper x fury 8GB 1600mhz stick of RAM and i want to get a second one but i am wondering if it has to be the exact same one or can i get a different manufacturer one that has 1600mhz and will that work as well as if i got one more hyper x fury stick ?

Solution
1. Never put single sticks in a dual channel MoBo.... a) you take a performance hit 95% in gaming, more in certain apps and b) you can never be sure of matching it up with another stick.

2. RAM is guaranteed to work only when you get them in the same package.

3. RAM manufacturers change things up over time, without changing model numbers... so the Model CX4567542LP today may have different timings and even different modules than one you buy 4 months from now. RAM vendor generally will buy from higher priced sources early in a models lifetime than switch to a lower cost supplier as production lines improve.

4. You could buy 2 sticks in different packages on the same day from the same even for and they could arrive int he same...

Frequency wise, they both would run at the frequency of the lower spec'd RAM.

As for Dual Channel, it depends on a lot of factors. Dual Channel doesn't really affect performance that much though.

There is always a chance that your motherboard will not even boot, but most modern motherboards can handle it and I would expect it to run fine.

a 2x8 kit is way too expensive for me here where i live and that is even buying online, but i can get the exact same stick in a pc shop nearby and all i really need to know is whether i will have any problems even with the same one when i insert it and why

i just want to use a dual channel since i know it is a lot better than having a single because of the bandwidth specially in games since that is why i mainly use my PC for,so i just want to know if getting the same mhz ram or even the same exact ram as i have will work

It doesn't hinder gaming at all. But anyways, try to get the same brand at least. The current RAM I have are two HyperX Fury that I bought separately. Hynix made one chip and Samsung made the other. They are working fine in Dual Channel.

5. Remember, RAM that is sold as 1 stick, may have been packaged that way simply because it didn't pass testing when paired with a 2nd stick.

That being said, that doesn't mean you can't get them to work.

a. Of course same manufacturer, same OEM modules and same timings is a good start.

b. You may have to bump the voltage a bit.

c. if ya can't do a. then set all to the lowest common speed, highest timings.

d. Regartding 3 above, sometimes you will
