Hello Everyone,

Ok so I currently have the 8gb (2x4gb) set of Ripjaws X DDR3 (1600mHz) ram. I purchased this ram a year or so ago and have sort of outgrown it. I am looking to raise to 16gb of ram, however as I am on a budget I would like to just add another 8gb of ram as I have already 8. My motherboard is capable of doing so because it has quad channel ram (4 slots). The specific ram I have is the blue set of the ripjaws. However when I look on the G skill website there are 2 different version's of the blue ones and I am not 100% sure of the exact one I have.

Here are the links -
https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-12800cl9d-8gbxm
https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-12800cl8d-8gbxm

So my question is if I end up getting one of these 8gb kits (the above ones) will it matter which one I get or will I need to make sure they 100% match or I will get problems. Or is it just best to be safe and buy a whole new set of 16gb of ram?

Also they say dual channel on the specifications, will this also be a problem running 4 sticks of ram in quad?

Thanks

which motherbord is it?

Get the 2x4GB, because this would be 1600MHz too, the 16GB kit is just at 1333MHz, which will force your rig to run at 1333MHz or eventually doesn´t run @ all
Your motherboard and CPU are really necessary to know, before suggesting a correct RAM kit for you

Sorry my bad, my motherboard is the Gigabyte z97m-d3h, it has 4 slots as I thought quad channel was 4 slots of ram. My cpu is Intel i5 4690k. I have done some research and it seems also that it is best to buy a new set of 16gb of ram, I not to sure here. I have also found out that my ram is the f3-12800cl8d-8gbrm (1600mHz). So i would like to know is it bad to mix the exact same ram together even if they have the same specs? But they are dual channel kits.

Thanks for the help, but the ram I have is X, I looked at the receipt for my build parts and the exact ram I currently have is this one:

https://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445&cm_re=g_skill_ripjaws_x-_-20-231-445-_-Product

This is the exact 8gb kit I currently have, so if all the latency's and voltages and mhz's are the exact same. I can add another 8gb kit the exact same to my motherboard and it will work perfectly fine?

Thanks

(My bad the code for the ram I have is F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM)
