I have been reading some of the questions asked about installing two m.2 ssd drives.

I have two m.2 2280 ssd's that I want to install to my ix hero. After installing it says m.2 recognized, fatal error.

I currently have a 1080 populating the top pcie 3.0x 16 slot and a ssd, hdd in the sata ports. Now based on other questions asked about this I can't use the other m.2 because of where my video card is placed?

Solution
If it still doesn't detect, most probably you have an M.2 SSD that is SATA-based only (and not PCIE-based) which won't work in that M.2_2 socket. If you have different M.2 SSD's (one SATA-based, one PCIE-based), try to plug those M.2 SSDs to its appropriate sockets, being M.2_1 for SATA-based and M.2_2 for PCIE-based.

1| Always make sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date.
2| Can you boot into BIOS while having both SSD's populated into the M.2 slots?
3| If you can boot into BIOS, you should be able to tinker around with the M.2 features in your BIOS, located under the Advanced menu tab.

It'd be a good idea if you passed on your full system's specs.

The GPU should not matter whether you plug in an M.2 or not. Would look at your SATA ports though (and other PCIe slots, if any other is used, but since you did not mention it, probably only your GPU is plugged in).

Based on your motherboard's specifications:

"When the M.2_1 Socket 3 is operating in SATA mode, SATA port 1 will be disabled.
When the M.2_2 Socket 3 is operating in PCIEX4 mode, SATA port 5. 6 will be disabled."

Any chance your SSD and/or HDD is plugged in at SATA_1, SATA_5, and/or SATA_6? If so, then the M.2_1 and/or the M.2_2 would be disabled if running in SATA and/or PCIEX4, respectively.

When I boot up it skips the bios option and goes to manufacturer screen saying m.2 recognized and something about pci-e and at the end fatal error as to not being able to use it.

So I have changed where my cd drive, hdd and ssd are plugged into the sata ports. So sata port 5 and 6 are open. It tells me this though, an m.2 sata device has been detected in the m.2 _2 socket. The m.2_2 socket can only support pci e devices. Using an m.2 sata device won't work in this socket, fatal error.

It appears that both of my m.2 are sata only. I did change m.2_2 to x4, but that did nothing. Still error.
