Hello All,

new install of windows 8.1
motherboard is asus p8z77-v pro thunderbolt
I have 2 SSD cards and another hard drive... so 2 SSD's and
3 hard disks but only 2 of the hard disks are not showing.
I tried connecting it to sever spots on mother board but still don't show.
the harddrive that isn't being found is a Western Digital 1tb SATA /32mb cache WD10EALS
I took 1- 1TB and a 1- 80gb harddrive out of my older computer and put it in my build and will use it as a back up.
the 1TB drive does not show in bios or disk management. the 80gb does. I swapped wires and still only the 80gb shows. I can feel vibration when the power is on but nothing shows.
what kind of newbie mistake can I be making if any.
thank you for your help

Tom

I'm not familiar with that specific mobo but some mobo/cpu combinations share PCIe lanes between PCIe slots and SATA connectors. You may be running out of lanes. Look into the PCIe lane configuration for all of you devices.

You said you "swapped wires" but did you try it without the 80Gb attached? If so and you still didn't see the 1TB drive, it's probably not a PCIe lanes issue.

I was just reading someone else's and relized that I may have had this drive - In the previous system were maybe set in a raid array (raid set in bios) or mirrored (set in windows storage spaces). I think I had something like that when dell put it together. but this computer I built

Possible try unhooking one drive that shows and plug the one that don't show in it. If it shows up in bios then it probably a lane issue if it don't dead drive? I have no idea how raid would make it disappear from bios though?
