My mouse cursor consistently changes to a vertical line with black dots every 30mins or so. I can stop this by turning on mouse trails but I don't want to have to resort to this. What could be causing this problem, and if possible how to fix it? I have reinstalled my GPU drivers and Mouse drivers.

What make and model mouse?
Could be some warning or indicator related to the mouse....
Use Device Manager to delve into the available mouse settings and configuration options.
Do you have any settings e.g., sleep/hibernate that are set for 30 minutes?
Does the problem occur all the time or just with certain games or applications.
Need to narrow down the circumstances as best you can.

Mouse is a razer deathadder chroma.
It seems to occur when I'm in google chrome, it hasn't happened while playing games.
I also recently upgraded from an R9 380 to an RX 480.
If I turn off mouse shadows it increases the time before the fault occurs.

Just updated to an Optional Driver and saw this in the Fixed released notes : Mouse cursor corruption may be experienced on some Radeon RX 480 series graphics products.
I'll test tomorrow, but hopefully this fixes it
