I got this laptop just this past Dec, and the HD gave up the ghost already. It's a 1tb Seagate.

Dell sent me a replacement out pronto, but I have an SSD SATA slot. I purchased a Crucial 1TB compatible (I believe) SATA III MX 300. I installed it alone and took out the HD drive. I put the battery back in and turned the unit on. I let it run its checks, it discovered no hardware issues and it recognizes the new SSD. But that's it. I changed the boot order, but now I'm getting a message that there is not a bootable drive.

I'm just a weekend warrior at problem-solving and doing upgrades. I know my way around pretty good on a PC, but it's sometimes the techie detail things that throw me. I'm sure I'm missing something perhaps simple.

I'll add that I did update the bios to the latest Dell recommended before I started the change out.

Any suggestions and help to get my SSD to be the bootable drive are greatly appreciated!

My plan is then to install the new replacement 1 TB HDD as another drive.

I actually solved my own issue... dummy me. I just created a bootable disk for W10 on a USB drive and reinstalled the OS. Tada. Sometimes I overlook the simple stuff just trying to get to the end.

So, I'll add that the Crucial 1TB SSD MX 300 SATA M.2 2280SS SSD works with this laptop!

Thanks Harris, I had decided against cloning as I thought disk errors may mess it up. I had everything backed up so I just went ahead and installed W10 fresh.

Thanks for the suggestion!
