Hi everyone. I got a problem that I need some help with.
I have a hand built PC, running a 1045T CPU and an ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard, with 4GB RAM. This system is pretty much only for word processing and surfing the net, so it doesn’t need high specs.
The problem I am having is that the CPU fan is running stead at 3200 RPM all the time, with CoreTemp showing the CPU staying around 40-45C. With no programs running, Speed Fan showed the CPU load is about 1% (with same fan speed). Adjusting q-fan and cool n quiet have no effect. Reflashed the BIOS (21.01), and that had no effect, as well.
Any ideas on how to quiet this fan down, short of my wife’s idea to pitch it out the window (her computer, so it would be her loss)?
I am popping it open tomorrow to drop another 4gb of RAM in there (which I know won’t make a difference on this problem). I was planning to check if the CPU fan is 3- or 4-pin, and if it is plugged in correctly. I know it’s the right spot, but I wasn’t sure if a 3-pin could be off on which side it should be aligned on.
Any other suggestions you folks have would be very helpful.
Thanks!
Update:
Dropped in the extra 4gb stick, and verified this is a 3-pin cpu fan. Speed fan still shows it running at 3200, with a high pitch whine (and not just my wife's, either).
