My Asus Maximus Formula is not detecting my Samsung 960 Evo m.2 SSD

I recently purchased a Samsung 960 Evo M.2 NVMe SSD and installed it in my motherboards M.2 slot, but neither windows or the bios are detecting it.

Here are my specs:

ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Formula, S-1151
Intel Core i7-6700K
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666MHz 16G
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB SC+

Have you ever used an M.2 drive in that slot before? I ask to see if you know that the slot is working.

If the slot is known to work then you may have a DOA SSD. Or, you may have a dead M.2 slot in which case you would have to get a new board or use a PCIe M.2 adapter in one of your PCIe slots.
