is my cpu bottlenecking my gpu?

good afternoon,

i just bought a gtx 980 and still experience a lot of lag in gta V (poorly optimized iknow).
but maybe this has something to do with my cpu ( Amd Fx 6300 4,7 Ghz)
does anybody know more about this?

Yes the CPU will hold it back , look into Ryzen or intel setup.

No AM3+ chip will help time to move on.

Definite bottleneck. AMD FX chips have low IPC, so the 4.7GHz turbo will likely feel like somewhere around 3GHz on a modern Intel chip. Also, there's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgejkSWzvNs and this research is sound.

Even an i3 6100 will run circles around that CPU when it comes to gaming.

Ryzen 5 in a month or so or an intel setup can be built for a decent price.

Bump that up beyond 4.0-4.2 GHz and GTA V will run much better before you rebuild the machine.

Just a reminder to you and anyone else reading this who doesn't know, simply adding the fastest videocard you can get does not always solve performance problems. Game performance can be affected by other things.

You don't mention how much ram you have, GTA V stutters with only 4gb, so if that's what you have then add more.
