Replacing Power Supply

Hi all,

I have a 7 year old Corsair HX750w that is going bad that I need to replace. I put in quite a bit of work in cable management with this PSU. I was not looking forward to ripping it all out and re-cabling everything again as it would take multiple hours.

I was curious since this is a modular PSU if I could buy a similar one and just remove the main portion of the PSU, replace it with the new one, and hook back up all the modular cables.

Is this an option? What PSUs would be compatible to do this with?

Only concern is the pinout of the connectors. If you use a different psu, it could short out and destroy your whole system if the wires dont match up. I would only give you 2 options. Find a used version of the same PSU and reinstall or deal with the mess of redoing cabling with a new PSU.

A couple of options there. For one, you could see if you can find a new-in-box PSU of the same model. That'd be easiest. The other is the find 360 views of some other PSUs (Newegg and Amazon often have them) and look at the connectors themselves. Wouldn't be surprised if you could find another - most likely from the same company - that would work.
