There is a way to get more volume out of the vsx-90 using the menu with the remote.I did it last year and forgot how to restore those settings. It was a matter of going from 0 to +12 on one of the settings which made a difference in not letting receiver get too hot.

Fair play, no problem. I have not dealt with this particular unit before, but glad you found the setting! I looked into your problem, and it seems that many people have been complaining about the 'less than pokey' power from the amp!
Good luck with the fan install, and do update the thread with your achievement!

All the best,
Kenton.

Not to familiar with this model, but was this to do with the sub-zone volume control? If so try pressing the sub-zone button on the remote, then using the volume control buttons +/-

Sorry i cant be more helpful!

Thanks for responding-that was not the solution, I did stumble across the setting using remote to access the MCACC setup through the menu -went to each of my speakers to raise level from 0 to +12, I must be going deaf because if I play my CD's at -30 or 29 which sounds loud and clear for about 20 minutes, the receiver starts heating up pretty bad and I know it will shorten the life of the VSX-90.I will look into buying a cooling fan to sit on top of the unit. Thanks again!
I am satisfied with the sound I get with this receiver and did purchase an AC infinity cooling fan to sit on top of receiver.
