GPU causing my computer to crash nonstop

Hi,

I'm using a GTX 770 and this happen just yesterday when I was in the middle of my gaming session (Path of Exile).

The screen will begin to tear(?) before proceeding to crash the entire system and it would take several restarts to boot it back up because there will be no display. The only time it will successfully display anything after a crash is when it loads into system recovery to let me know that the computer wasn't start up properly. Even then, it is still possible for a crash.

I've saw several BSOD messages regarding video scheduler internal error messages before knowing that it was the GPU's problem. Tried many fix but none have worked.

Is this a sign that my GPU is faulty and I should get a replacement?

This is what I see before a crash happens:
Here

Thanks in advance with any inputs/helps regarding my issue.

It's a seasonic 620W PSU. Cant really recall the model and cant really check since im at work currently.

I'll give it a shot when I end work later on. Hopefully it fixes the problem.

If I use your desktop screenshots as a reference, it looks as if it is doing this even on the desktop, Is that fair?

<EDIT> Easiest thing first: as already stated, try the latest drivers for the GPU and your OS version to see if that helps.... otherwise....

A weakened PSU would probably work fine on the desktop and blow up with games as the GPU would demand a lot more power. (I had a PSU too weak for a specific GPU once, desktop was fine, games would crash the system.)

Considering Seasonic, unless it has been abused, or pushed hard and choked with dust, the PSU should be fine. You can check PSU functionality by swapping it out with a known good model. If the issue clears up using your GTX770, there is your problem.

Try the iGPU (if available) to see if it clears up too. If it doesn't It's the PSU. If it does clear up, try a different GPU that pulls about the same amount of power and see if it works fine. If it works fine, it's the GPU. If it doesn't then it probably is the PSU, or both.

At (I am assuming) three years of age, the Seasonic PSU should have plenty of warranty time left if it is the issue. The GPU might be a different story, depending on the board manufacturer (eVGA, MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, ...) it will probably still be under warranty. If not, well... for under $200 you can replace it with a GPU that is better ranked (albeit not by much), like a Radeon RX-480 (if AMD doesn't offend you) or a GTX-1060 3GB.

My money would ride on the GPU though, which you can RMA under warranty assuming warranty hasn't expired, or replace with a newer GPU.

Yes, it crashes even on the desktop. Just don't know when it will crash. I've let it sit on it's own for somewhere between 5mins to 30mins and it will eventually crash. The picture taken was just upon bootup.

Tried the latest graphics driver but i'll probably do a clean wipe of any possible registry remnants as stated above.

Good point on testing it out with the iGPU to isolate the problem of a weak PSU or dying GPU.

Thanks alot. I'm gonna give all these solutions a try and report back here.

Firstly, let me apologize for not being able to update on my situation sooner. Was away for a business trip.

Now onto what I've done:

  • Clean uninstall graphic driver using DDU - Problem persist.
Removed GPU and tested it with iGPU only - Problem persist.
Switched PSU (Seasonic X650) and tested with and without GPU - Problem persist.

Now it doesn't seem to be either GPU or PSU problem. Could it be a motherboard problem?

Did you find the solution to this problem? I have recently installed a new GPU and PSU, and I am facing the same issue. I would appreciate any assistance you could offer. I have gone through the same trouble shooting mentioned in this post with out any success. I did the memory test mentioned at the end, but it returned no errors found.
