Hi there,

I have an Asus R558U model laptop. I am looking for an 8 GB RAM upgrade for it. The latency of current one which is inbuilt RAM shows 11-11-11-28 in speccy, but CPUZ shows both 11-11-11-28 and 7-8-8-28 randomly.

Could you please suggest which latency should I go for when buying new 8GB and the best brand and model number?

Thanks a ton!

I think it shouldn't be a real problem. The problem will occur when you mix two different RAM modules with different speed and timings, but different RAM latency also causes problem with some computers.

Or go with Crucial memory module. If you're unsure if the Kingston is compatible with your ASUS laptop.
Please refer to ASUS QVL memory list.
The Kingston one has a heatsink, It might not fit for thin laptops.
Can you please give us more information about your ASUS laptop?
It seems I can't find any details on google, it gave me blank results.

To buy a RAM and make sure if its compatible with your system, you need to know what type of DDR type your laptop use.
It can be DDR3 or DDR4 SODIMM.

The main rule of RAM latency is: The lower the latency, the faster the memory module is. The higher the RAM timing, the slower memory module is. DDR3 have lower latency compared to DDR4, but its doesn't mean if DDR3 is faster, also look for RAM frequency. DDR4 RAM have higher frequency than DDR3.

We can't give you advice to buy the perfect RAM for your system since we don't know what type of RAM does your laptop use.

Hi,

Thank you. DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, 1 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 12 GB SDRAM. This is what it shows in the specs.

Thanks.

I recommend this:
Kingston 8GB DDR3L CL9
https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-HyperX-1600MHz-HX316LS9IBK2/dp/B00KQCOTCM/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1489032533&sr=1-4&keywords=ddr3l-1600%2Bsodimm&th=1

Crucial 8GB DDR3L CL11
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC3L-12800-204-Pin-CT102464BF160B/dp/B006YG8X9Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1489032706&sr=1-1&keywords=ddr3l-1600%2Bsodimm

I personally choose the Kingston one. It has lower latency.

You must buy a DDR3L memory. Because Intel Skylake CPU on your laptop only supports DDR4 and DDR3L.
DDR3L has lower voltage than standard DDR3.
Using non DDR3L RAM could damage your laptop.
