Hi Guys,

Hopefully you can help, ive put a new build together on a super tight budget! basic gaming rig really but i seem to be having what looks like high CPU temp issues

Build:

Ahtlon x4 860k - stock 3.7ghx
Asrock FM288am Extreme 4+
EVGA 80+ 500w PSU
Sapphire Radeon RX 470
8gb corsair vengance 1866mhz RAM
Coolermaster 103 tower cooler
2 sata 3 hdd's
1 generic dvd Re-w
1 rear exhaust fan (no other fans but have have orderd 3 artic cooling 120mm case fans

Basically HWmonitor says my cpu is idle at 45-60 degrees and then only tested sims 3 on ultra and got 78 degrees load - which all seems high, i know these chips run hot but not that hot?

I tried the stock AMD cooler and got +10 degrees in both idle and load

increased cpu fan speed but didnt make much difference on the coolermaster

The strange thing is AOD tells me my thermal margin at idle is 78 degrees? so is my mobo giving out bad data to HWmonitor?

The VRMS next to the CPU seem very very hot also

Ive also read on the Asrock website that my cpu is recommended to have a top down cooler, ive ordered a zalman 8900 to test this to see if this makes a difference im jut uncomfortable at these current temps, i dare not attempt BF1!

Thanks

I trust the thermal margin. I can't speak for anyone else.

The FM2+ motherboards seem to give a lot of monitoring programs problems. I have only had luck with AMD Overdrive. Remember that it does not show the temperature it shows the allowable increase in temperature. It will start with a big number and decrease as the cpu heats.

Thanks for coming back

So really I should trust the AOD thermal margin? With a TM of 78 degrees is my CPU effectively running at say around 20 degrees idle?

I just don't like that the temps in other monitoring programs give immaculate data, is there anything else I could get a more accurate reading from?

When touching the heatsink it barely feel warm and can't feel much air passing through but is definitely seated fine and thermal paste is a pea size spread

Guys any other input? i see on the web it seems FM2 sockets dont tend to read correctly in most 3rd party apps

i want to overclock the 806k to at least 4.2ghz

anyone have experience with this chip and monitoring issues?

Ok looks like its resolved, the FM2 board was telling fibs

CoreTemp give me idel 23 degrees and load about 50 so this looks correct

Thermal margin idel is about 58 stock cooler and 72 on coolermaster

Then i have 26 degrees left on thermal margin on load playing bf1, coolermaster not recorded yet

Thanks for your input Kanewolf
