Worth upgrading CPU or better to get new motherboard first?

Solution
Well there's not much point in buying an LGA 1155 cpu nowadays unless you get a really really good deal on a 2500K/2600K. By the time you replace everything needed to upgrade your computer (PSU, CPU, mobo, DDR4 RAM), all you're going to be left with is the case and maybe a hard drive, and the case won't have headers to use the features on your new motherboard. Plus, if you get a new motherboard, your OEM windows key won't work anymore. Keeping it just seems like more trouble than it's worth. Basically your choices IMO are build new or buy a sandy bridge processor, which is slowly becoming obsolete.

I really wanted to avoid having to get a whole new computer, and have been slowing changing this one since I got it last year. I have got a GTX 1050 ti and 8 gb of ram since buying it, and really like the case as it has easy access and is sturdy

Thanks, you did basically confirm what I feared. Guess it'll just be a lot of saving up

(Important note: Sandy Bridge CPU's are not "obsolete". The best CPU's from that generation lag behind by a slight margin compared to current gen CPU's.)

Would there not be a chance of things not working if I upgraded to an Ivy Bridge cpu like the ones you mention, since they are a generation newer?
