As long as you are willing to drop settings to the lowest, you should be able to use a 1050 and get around 60fps in games, as long as you have a quad core or better CPU. It simply doesn't make sense from a business standpoint for game developers to make games that leave out everyone with 2gb modern GPUs from their potential market. That doesn't even count the possibility of lowering resolution to 720p, then you could game on a 1050 for even longer.
Just a tip though based on my own experience. I once had a 1280x1024 monitor and was absolutely sure that would be my monitor for the next couple of years. So I bought a videocard that was good at that resolution but could not do decent framerate at higher resolutions. Then a couple of months later my monitor burned out and I got a 1080p monitor, since they were cheap by then. Too bad I was stuck with a videocard that could not handle gaming even on low settings at 1080p. So don't be too sure about what you'll be using in the next couple of years, things can change faster than you think.
