Hello! So this is my first pc build and I am having trouble installing Windows 7. I have copied the ISO file onto a USB but when I go to install it it can not find a boot device. I've read that I may need to update my motherboard drivers to read USB but do not have a disc tray to do so. Is there another way to get them updated? I'm currently copying the support disc onto a USB but have no idea if this will even work. Any help would be appreciated!

Solution
make a bootable usb with Rufus
You will also need to enable legacy boot in UEFI/BIOS settings if you want to install windows 7 or you could just make a bootable win8/win10 usb for uefi boot.

I should load in the disc onto my laptop and extract it to the USB?

Use any free software to make a bootable USB, i use the most Rufus be carefull to choose beforehand what type of installation you want, legacy (MBR) or Uefi (GPT). https://rufus.akeo.ie/

Windows 7 supports uefi (GPT) installation. But even if it is installed in a gpt drive it will be a hybrid boot, which means that legacy support must be enabled in bios.

EDIT: @octavecode I know you said the same thing but i wanted to explain a bit more what you've tried to say.
