So I know that the first question between the 1060 and 480 has been asked a ton, but I can never tell who wins. I often play games such as csgo, h1z1, arma 3, overwatch, and game like that. So what card would be better for me running it with an i5 7600 cpu. Also, what how beneficial would it be for me to spend the extra money to maybe grab the 1070 or a 980ti. I definitely have the money, but I don't know if it would be uneccesary for my needs. I'm only looking to keep the 1060 or 480 for maybe a year or so, but if I gt a 1070 or 980ti I would want at least 2 years out of it.

Thank you.

It's a toss up. Someone (forget who) tested the 1060/480 in like 29 different games. End result was basically a tie. But where the 1060 won, it was by larger margins than when the 480 won. Mostly this was in DX11 games where the 1060 is the stronger card. In DX12, Vulcan has allowed Amd cards to close the gap to the point where even a 470 can give a 1060 a run for its money.

GTX 1060 vs RX 480 will depend on the games you play. Some games have the RX 480 ahead in fps (e.g. Doom in Vulkan, Hitman in DX12 or DX11), some games both GPUs perform almost identically in fps (Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Quantum Break in DX12, Just Cause 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, Ashes of Singularity in DX12, Tom Clancy's The Division, etc.), but most games have the GTX 1060 ahead in fps.

Based on the games you play, you'd be better with getting a GTX 1060 (unless budget dictates otherwise). Note that both GTX 1060 and RX 480 are the top-of-the-line GPUs for gaming at 1080p/60Hz. Depending on the game, it can clearly go beyond 120Hz if you have the monitor to display at those faster refresh rates.

The only reason I can recommend in going after a GTX 1070 (forget the GTX 980Ti due to higher power consumption and older-gen card), is if you are looking at gaming at 1440p resolution (or 1080p/144Hz++). The GTX 1070 is overkill if you plan on staying at 1080p/60Hz.

I believe this isnt the case anymore my friend, if you watched the new hardware unboxed video on gtx 1060 vs rx 480 (crimson relive update) , the 1060 is just 1% faster on average at 1080p and 1440p.
Edit: But based on the games OP plays, I agree, he will get more frames with the 1060 and seeing as he would be swapping out the graphics card within a year, there's no downside.

Depends on the monitor resolution, refresh rate and in-game settings.

If you're gaming at 1080p-resolution / ~60Hz Ultra, then, GTX 1060 *or* RX 480 (whichever you like).

If you want to game at 1440p-resolution / ~60Hz Ultra, *or* 1080p-resolution / ~120Hz++, then, get a GTX 1070.
