I'm getting a new computer, and I was wondering if there is a drastic difference between the i5 and the i7, and which one has the better deal. I'd prefer the 7700K model, and my budget is around $1.5 thousand dollars.

At this point I would say 4C/8T is where you want to start like the i7 7700K. Games like BF1, Watch Dogs 2, Ghost Recon Wildlands will all take as many threads as you can throw at them. Until now 2C/4T was considered entry level for gaming, 4C/4T was mainstream, 4C/8T was high end mainstream, 6C/12T to 10C/20T was considered high end. With Ryzen's launch by the end of the year this will change considerably. 4C/4T will be the new entry level, 4C/8T mainstream, 6C/12T high end mainstream (you may argue it will just be main stream depending on manufacturer) and 8C/16T to 10C/20T for high end. Point being get as many threads as you can afford. The game is changing, pun most certainly intended.

I'm sorry if this is a bad question, but why do PC's have to have a SSD and a Hard Drive?
EDIT: Why do PC's have to have both a SSD and a hard drive?

They absolutely don't need both (I assume that's what you're asking, not why do you need either of them) issue is ssds are pretty expensive for their capacity so people use them for programs and games they want to load very quickly and a hard drive to store media and other data. They are much much slower but a lot cheaper as well

If I were to get a hard drive and a SSD, which one would I put my operating system on?
