Was skipping things when buying new PC. Forgot to check the motherboard capabilities.

I bought Patriot Viper 4 2x8 3400MHz that will installed on X370 asrock gaming K4. The thing is in their site, it only support up to 2933 MHz and the variant of my PV4 isn't listed on the Motherboard support.

Do I have to buy another RAM or what are the consequences if I plug the ram?

Thanks

If the RAM is completely incompatible, it won't boot at any speed. If it will boot at default speeds, you can always manually adjust the RAM to run at the MoBo's maximum speed (2933) and the given 3400 RAM's CAS (and other) timings. Then check stability.

None of this should hurt the RAM or the motherboard, even if it don't work right. Of course, you are welcome to RMA the RAM to the seller, if it isn't past the allowed returns period and get RAM that tops out at or just below the rated speed.

very very right...

This doesn't mean that it won't accept 3400 RAM and use it. It just means it won't run it at its rated speed. You can manually set the speed to the motherboard maximum, and adjust timings if necessary. (JEDEC standards may even cover the required settings... unfortunately I don't have that RAM to know for certain.)
