Okay, so an Australian friend of mine, has a new computer that works fine, without a graphics card installed.

However, the moment that my friend turns off the computer, and plugs in the graphics card (he has two different ones, both have the same effect) the monitor will not display anything when plugged into the graphics card. We have tried turning off the IGP, setting it to PCIE/IGP, and other solutions, however nothings working. The monitors have been tested on other computers, work fine. The graphics cards (BOTH) have been tested as well, and they both work. But for the life of me, we cannot get any display through the graphics card when plugged into THIS computer.

the PSU is a 480 (not the best, but it should be able to at least display)

The graphics cards, neither of them, display in the device manager, but i dont think the BIOs allows them to be seen or not seen. As Ive walked him through a few of the steps but nothing. Heres a couple images from a couple of attempts by us.

The motherboard is ASUS, although i have no idea which one, as he hasnt told me.

Oh and when the graphics cards (either) are plugged in, the fans will spin.

Solution
HP L1710 Monitor has VGA connector and GF 9800 GT has Dual Link DVI.
Check cables and connections are adapted correctly.

MB supports PCIe x16 Graphic cards. Check slot for contamination as its an old MB. Use compressed air from a canister and clean the Card terminals with Isopropyl Alcohol 95%.

Check the PSU is OK.
What is the OS.? I could not find support for W10 on the MB support site.?
Is the Bios up to date.? Last revision was 0416 dated 27/10/2010

That's about all I can suggest apart from a system upgrade.
Hi locust lab :)

Are the GPUs showing up in GPUz.? List them.
Are the cards compatible with the MB.? List the board and you can get that info from CPUz under the Mainboard tab.
Have you tried to update the Bios.? Can I assume the card drivers are installed.
It could be the PSU so test it under load.
What connection cables are being used for output to monitor.? List the monitor.

Yeah, just windows 8.1 drivers, which are being used. Bios is most up to date, Ill have him check slot ofor contamination, and ill have him check the vga to DVI cable and the monitor cable itself. Ill post a response later today with results
