Suggest PSU for Dell T3500 Precision workstation

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Precision T3500 CPU and suddenly it stopped working. The problem is with PSU which has failed permanently. The CPU is fitted with a Dell HIPOT 525Watts PSU with following details:
Input voltage 100-240V/8.5A/50-60Hz
Output power: 525Watts
+12VA-18A
+12VB-18A
+12VC-18A
+5V-20A
+3.3A-20A
-12V-0.5A
+5Vsb-4A
Maximum combined power on +5V and +3.3 V output is 150Watts.
Maximum combined power on +12VA, +12VB, and +12VC is 500Watts.

Please suggest me a reliable power supply unit for replacement. I use the system for simulation and modelling and it is fitted with 12GB of RAM and it came with a NVIDIA GeForce 600 entry level graphic card.Please send/suggest and you may send your replies to sunildohare@gmail.com

Simplest solution is to get a direct replacement. New Dell T3500 PSU sell for about $100. Used for $30. The 875w T5500 unit will work too. $50 used.

The SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W is a decent 2nd tier PSU that has all the connectors you need for that system.

One thing to be aware of. The CPU power connector on that motherboard is extreme farthest point from the PSU (lower left). So an Extension Cable may be required.

Are you sure if SeaSonic or any other aftermarket PSU will work on Dell system ?

There were discussions on various forum that Dell MB-PSU combo are proprietary system with somewhat different Pinout making it difficult to replace it with aftermarket PSU.

Also the amperage of various rails in Dell system may differ slightly.

For Example Dell PSU -12V Rail have .5 amp where as Seasonic has .3 amp, and +5Vsb in Dell is 4 amp where as Seasonic has 2.5 amp.

Yes. That T3500 with Seasonic PSU has been running flawlessly for well over a year now. No proprietary connectors connecting PSU to mainboard. Unless you plan to run your system standby mode in a networking environment those higher -12v and +5vsb rail values will not be needed.
