I use my PC for some AAA gaming + streaming and gaming Overwatch on the same PC. About 50/50 for purely gaming vs streaming.

Current Specs:

CPU Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory Corsair XMS3 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card
Monitor Dell S2716DG 27.0" 2560x1440 144Hz Monitor

I'm Currently considering 2 options:
Option 1: Sell my i5 4690k, buy a second hand i7 4790k for about $75 US or $100 Canadian more. Keep the rest of the components.
Option 2: Sell my CPU, Mobo and RAM and upgrade to brand new i7 6700k/7700k or Ryzen R7 1700 with 16GB DDR4 and new motherboard. Cost at least $150 US or $200 Canadian. Cost based on my estimate on the difference between buying new minus $ recoup'd from selling the old.

Currently streaming @720p 30 FPS in Overwatch fine after a lot of settings tweak, but I noticed the CPU usage has crept up since the game first came out.

I'm Still weighing my options/ waiting for deals. I'm not in a big rush to upgrade today.
Appreciate the feedbacks!

I'd say get an i7-4790k, your build is still very good and with that CPU change you should be fine for streaming at whatever setting you desire. You could OC the CPU to easily reach the performance of an 7700k if you'd wanted to.

Otherwise for a full new build Ryzen seems to be a far better choice for streaming and such.

I´ll go with you 2nd option.

If your going to play and stream you will need some horsepower, I recommend you to go with the 7700K the price difference with the 6700K are small and you’re going to get some nice features with the new Z270 chipset.

If you can save some money and like you say you’re are not in a hurry Ill will definitely go for the 7700K only if you have in mind to keeps streaming otherwise the i5 6600k / 7600k will be more than enough.

And what's the answer to the question? Feels like you've gone off topic here.

Definitely not considering the 6600k or 7600k. Too small of an upgrade and not worth the hassle. What features in Z270 platform helps streaming that the Z97 doesn't have??

nothing really, the i7 4790k is the best option

very good processor, not worth the extra expense of changing platforms

I'd either go ryzen R7 1700(x or not) or if you want to keep your z97 get an i7 4790K. The extra threads will help a lot when streaming without the cost of a whole new motherboard, ram and CPU...Ryzen would last you longer wth 8C/16T but the i7 4790K will be much cheaper upgrade with decent results.

I doubt DDR4 or extra PCIE lanes would make any noticable difference here.
