Guys, I'm planning on getting a GTX 1080 but there is just so much versions of it. Some of it that i like is the MSI Sea Hawk 1080, it's liquid cooled and quiet, the benchmarks shows that the card is as fast as the MSI Gaming X. What would you guys suggest or just choose the MSI Sea Hawk?

long story short, when NVidia produces the GPU chip on the video card, it manufacturers then in what is called Wafers (round disks) with hundreds of gpu chips on it, the middle chips on the wafer are normally the best GPUs. NVidia classifies the chips according to quality parameters from center to outside of wafer.. best in middle go to best video card types, in this case the GPU chips are the Titan X (best power and best to overclock) down to MS cards (cheap cards) the when NVidia distributes the chips they are classified in such a way from what should you use them for from best to lowest quality, many thing its a gpu lottery but its not truly. you get what you pay for in this case, and in this situation it is known that EVGA...

You can consider the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW or 1080 FTW HYBRID GAMING as well, great performance and for me the best warranty and service in the market, I have own some several GPU from this guys and the result has been always excellent, that’s my personal choice in any case all most all 1080 will perform just fine.

 WTF

Firstly, its not going to be different parts of the water for different 3rd party brands.

Secondly the wafer will be all the same GPU model, so you might have lots of different GP104 based GPUs like the 1080 and 1070. But you wont have Titan X (GP102) GPUs on the same wafer as GTX 1060 (GP106)

Fair enough I written this quickly and did not re read it after I posted it, your right Titan cpus are not 1080's

but in case for clarification.

When they produce the GP104, (1080 and 1070 Video cards GPU Chip ) the middle of the wafer is still the best video chips (and end up in classififcations before being sold to resalellers to build their video cards on, EVGA buys the best cpu they can and make their FTW series with them.Meaning if you bough a FTW and a standfard SSC 1080 from EVGA, you will find overclocking a FTW easy and get more speed out of it than a plain SSC card, which has a lower quality chip on the video card. this applies to all video cards on the markets EVGA, MSI, Gigabytes etc. and if you look at numerous revierws on the subject for years. performance ect , find quite often gigabyte Asus etc at the bottom of quality when you take in consideration their abilities to overclock their cards. MSI EVGA etc tend to count on these factors to sell their products. and not over charge for a good quality solid product.

of course this my personal opinion, based on 30 years in the industry.

Ok so just so we are clear, EVGA cards potentially being better quality is purely your opinion, not based on evidence. All of the brand want the best quality GPUS.

I quite like EVGA, I would buy their products. But to make them out as the best and you would somehow get a much better card than from Asus/MSI/Gigabyte etc.. I dont believe that.

I assume you missed the whole drama with evga making substandard cards where the VRMs were burning out?

maybe you need to try to understand what I am sdaying in the end iunstead of trying to find a reason to put other readers down when they try to speak .

the point is, and is my final comment on this
Meaning if you bough a FTW and a standfard SSC 1080 from EVGA, you will find overclocking a FTW easy and get more speed out of it than a plain SSC card, which has a lower quality chip on the video card

this is because when EVGA purchases their GPU's the better GPUS they get goes to the FTW series where other lower quality go to the SSC series for example.

That's it.. that's all.
