Make sure you're using the Intel drivers provided by HP for your specific laptop model. Windows 10 will try to automatically install the newest Intel driver, which does not work with switchable graphics. I had to disable the Windows Update service to prevent Windows from updating the Intel driver. Otherwise any 3D game I try to run on my laptop crashes.

Right-click This PC - > Manage -> Services and Applications -> Services -> Windows Update

Set Startup type to Disabled and stop the service. (If it won't stop, reboot after setting it to Disabled.) Please note that this completely disables Windows Update, so you'll have to manually start it once a month or so, let Windows Update, disable Update again, then reinstall the laptop...

Please note that this completely disables Windows Update, so you'll have to manually start it once a month or so, let Windows Update, disable Update again, then reinstall the laptop vendor-provided Intel drivers. Windows 10 used to have an option to let you block it from automatically updating certain drivers, but it seems to have disappeared with the Oct 2016 update. I haven't found a way to stop it from updating the Intel drivers on my laptop, forcing me to disable it entirely.

The way laptop switchable graphics have worked for the last ~7 years, the Intel integrated GPU drives the screen. It is always on and controls the screen. The AMD or Nvidia GPU acts as a co-processor. When the discrete GPU finishes rendering a frame, it sends it to the Intel GPU which then displays it on the screen. Unfortunately, Intel's default drivers seem to be built for desktop systems and laptops without a discrete GPU, and don't work with switchable graphics. You need to install the Intel GPU drivers provided by your laptop vendor.

Likewise, you may encounter problems if you install the latest AMD/Nvidia drivers, as they may not support switchable graphics either.
